Equipped with Comprehensive Passenger Amenities, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Itwari Junction Becomes a Centre of Attraction for Travelers
Bilaspur - 02 December 2024
The government has launched the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to further enhance the railway network of India, under which 1,337 stations are undergoing redevelopment. Among them is the Itwari station in Nagpur, now renamed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Itwari Junction, which has been completely transformed into a modern and passenger-friendly facility.
A budget of ₹12.39 crore has been allocated for the redevelopment of this station. Previously plagued by challenges like traffic congestion and inadequate parking, the station’s renovation has addressed these issues comprehensively.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the station now features separate entry and exit gates, widened roads with two lanes, expanded parking spaces for two-wheelers, and improved traffic management systems.
The exterior of the station has been designed in a blend of modern and traditional styles, with its new entrance inspired by the Khurda design pattern. This aesthetic makeover has made the station a centre of attraction for travellers. Modernized facilities for passengers include upgraded ticket counters, spacious waiting halls, and airport-standard toilets. Additionally, a dedicated ticket counter and pathways for Divyangjans have been provided to ensure accessibility.
For enhanced security, additional six CCTV cameras and three high-mast lights have been installed. A Rail Coach Restaurant (RCR) has also been approved and is under construction, promising to serve passengers soon. Furthermore, a PM Jan Aushadhi Kendra has been established at the station to provide affordable medicines.
The station’s facade has been significantly improved, and its concourse and waiting halls have been adorned with thread paintings, glass mosaics, and local artifacts that highlight the cultural heritage of Nagpur. These artworks showcase the region’s vibrant handloom industry and Gond art, enhancing the visual and cultural appeal of the station.
Symbolic elements honouring Nagpur’s identity have also been incorporated into the station’s decoration. The artworks depict the city’s iconic oranges, Gond art motifs, and a stunning glass mosaic of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the station's namesake. These cultural touches reflect the uniqueness of Nagpur city.
The station has been designed with a focus on environmental sustainability, universal accessibility, and inclusivity. Ramps, tactile pathways, and special facilities for Divyangjans ensure the station meets the needs of all passengers.
With these developments, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Itwari Junction stands as a testament to the modernization of India’s railway infrastructure while celebrating the cultural and historical essence of Nagpur.
